ASNC President Unveils New Education and Leadership Initiatives, Celebrates Year of Innovation

ASNC President Jamieson M. Bourque, MD, MHS, MASNC, presided over the ASNC2026 Opening Plenary Session.

During the ASNC2026 Opening Plenary Session, ASNC President Jamieson M. Bourque, MD, MHS, MASNC, looked back on a year shaped by the call he issued as President-elect: “Let’s innovate together.” He also used his Presidential Address to look ahead, announcing 2 new initiatives designed to help ASNC members build expertise and grow as leaders.

New OnDemand Education Initiative

Dr. Bourque announced that ASNC is developing a new OnDemand Education Initiative to help clinicians build expertise in areas increasingly important to modern nuclear cardiology practice. The new approach is being designed to provide education that is available anytime and combines core instruction with a substantial case library. Hybrid imaging and PET myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) are planned as the initiative’s first topics. The initiative reflects a growing need for education beyond traditional training pathways as nuclear cardiology continues to evolve.

Introducing: Mid-Career Leadership Academy

At ASNC2026, Jamieson M. Bourque, MD, MHS, MASNC, announced the forthcoming Mid-Career Leadership Academy.

Dr. Bourque also announced the ASNC Mid-Career Leadership Academy, a new program intended to extend ASNC’s career development continuum beyond the early-career years. The Academy will focus on helping mid-career professionals navigate personal and professional challenges, develop skills to lead their nuclear cardiology teams, and help shape the future of the field. The inaugural cohort is planned for fall 2027, with applications expected to open soon.

Year of Innovation Across Nuclear Cardiology

The announcements came as Dr. Bourque reviewed 2026, a year of remarkable innovation across the field. He highlighted continued growth in PET MPI, advances in cardiac amyloidosis imaging, and the rapidly expanding role of artificial intelligence. ASNC supported those developments through education, new clinical guidelines, and research grants. Beyond education and science, he emphasized the importance of collaboration and advocacy. ASNC partnered broadly with cardiovascular and imaging societies, continued to strengthen relationships with international organizations, and held a record 66 constituent meetings during its 2026 Capitol Hill Day and congressional briefing.

The nuclear cardiology community gathered for ASNC2026’s Opening Plenary Session in Las Vegas.

Dr. Bourque concluded his address by returning to the message that began his presidency: Progress depends on participation. He encouraged members to explore ASNC’s educational offerings, implement new guidelines, advocate for nuclear cardiology at the national and local levels, and take full advantage of the opportunities available through the Society. “The most important part of ASNC is YOU!” he told attendees. “Let’s innovate together!”
