The latest installment in the ASNC LDP/TLDP special topics webinar, AI into Practice, was held in July 2026.

Physician and technologist members of ASNC’s Leadership Development Programs (LDP and TLDP) recently participated in an interactive webinar exploring the rapidly evolving role of artificial intelligence (AI) in nuclear cardiology. Experts from ASNC’s AI Task Force – Jamieson M. Bourque, MD, MHS, FASNC, Robert J.H. Miller, MD, FASNC, and Piotr Slomka, PhD, MASNC – highlighted how AI is already improving image acquisition, processing, interpretation, and reporting while also addressing challenges with clinical implementation. The webinar was moderated by LDP/TLDP Chair Saurabh Malhotra, MD, MPH, FASNC.

The faculty encouraged viewing AI as a tool to augment expertise. Current and emerging applications include faster image reconstruction, automated attenuation correction, enhanced diagnostic accuracy, and use of large language models to support standardized reporting. Ongoing practical challenges include validation, regulation, reimbursement, and ensuring clinician oversight.

The webinar also explored how clinicians’ roles will evolve as AI automates more routine tasks. The faculty urged LDP and TLDP participants to focus on areas where their expertise remains indispensable, such as integrating imaging findings into the broader clinical picture, individualizing patient care, and evaluating AI-generated recommendations.
