ASNC Leader Appointed to U.S. Preventive Services Task Force

Venkatesh Murthy, MD, PhD, MASNC, has been appointed to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force.

Venkatesh Murthy, MD, PhD, MASNC, has been appointed to the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Dr. Murthy has expertise in heart disease prevention and medical imaging; experience generating, analyzing, and assessing medical evidence; and knowledge of the use of artificial intelligence and other new approaches to improve screening and risk assessment.

The USPSTF reviews scientific evidence related to preventive health screening and makes recommendations about the clinical value of each service. The recommendations are used to determine which preventive services must be covered by most private insurers without cost-sharing under the Affordable Care Act.

Dr. Murthy is one of 8 new members announced who will serve on the 16-person committee. Cardiologist Ronald Karlsberg, MD, is also among the new appointees.
