Summary
The central mission of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC) is to improve cardiovascular outcomes through image-guided patient management. The most commonly used radionuclide-based imaging test in the United States is single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI). ASNC has issued independently, and in collaboration with other societies, multiple guidelines, 1 , 2 , 3 appropriate use criteria, 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 position and information statements, 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 preferred practice statements, 18 as well as other documents to provide the field of nuclear cardiology with evidence-based standards for performing SPECT MPI. 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 For this evidence base to actually improve outcomes, it must be implemented in clinical practice. It is in this spirit that ASNC is now establishing quality metrics for nuclear cardiology laboratories in order to provide transparency in reporting…read more.
