In the lead-up to his ASNC presidency, Jamieson M. Bourque, MD, MHS, FASNC, spoke with Cardiovascular Business about the Society’s priorities for the year ahead. Watch the interview.

“This is a critical time for nuclear cardiology, a very exciting time,” said ASNC President-elect Jamieson M. Bourque, MD, MHS, FASNC, in a video interview posted last week. “We are at an inflection point. There is enormous opportunity for growth and expansion.”

Dr. Bourque’s conversation with Cardiovascular Business Digital Editor Dave Fornell focused on advances that ASNC is helping to “shepherd into the field.” He highlighted ASNC’s plans around artificial intelligence, new applications for nuclear cardiology, and supporting the growth of cardiac PET.

“While we are continuing to support the use of the highest-quality SPECT imaging, we know that PET perfusion imaging is our optimal modality for assessing ischemic heart disease with nuclear techniques,” Dr. Bourque said. He noted that referring clinicians are increasingly appreciating the value that cardiac PET provides. “They are going to ask for a lot more [PET imaging], and medical centers are going to be incentivized to get dedicated cameras,” he said. “… We all benefit when there is increased use of cardiac PET.”
