On Jan. 12, ASNC reported that there have been shortages of both Tc-99m pyrophosphate (PYP) and Tc-99m hydroxymethylene diphosphonate (HMDP or HDP) at several U.S. sites.
ASNC is in contact with the manufacturers of both products and can share the following updates:
PYP Supply
Sun Pharma, one of the manufacturers of PYP, reported it currently has no PYP and did not share a timeline for having available supply.
Curium, the other PYP manufacturer, recently received Food and Drug Administration approval for a new active product ingredient supplier and has since produced a new lot of Technescan PYP, which the company currently expects to release by the end of February. There will be limited supply of Technescan PYP over the coming months until Curium can produce and release multiple lots and rebuild safety stock.
HMDP/HDP Supply
Curium also reports that demand for Technescan HDP has increased due to the limited availability of PYP from all suppliers. Curium is currently planning to release another lot of Technescan HDP in January, which will provide supply for approximately 3 to 4 weeks.
The company is also expecting to release another lot of Technescan HDP before the end of February; however, the supply of Technescan HDP will be limited over the coming months until Curium can produce and release multiple lots and rebuild safety stock.
Contact Your Radiopharmacy
