President’s Message Highlights New Opportunities in Diagnosis and Management
The February issue of the Journal of Nuclear Cardiology includes a President’s Message reflecting on the issue of women’s heart health. Prompted by the annual observation of Heart Month, ASNC President Panithaya Chareonthaitawee, MD, reflected on startling statistics. “Heart disease accounts for nearly one in three female deaths each year,” she notes. Despite campaigns emphasizing women’s heart health, she adds, “disparities persist” across diagnosis, treatment, and awareness.

ASNC Education Committee Chair Renée Bullock-Palmer, MD, FASNC, examines a female patient.
Dr. Chareonthaitawee also highlighted the “transformative role” of nuclear cardiology in women’s cardiovascular care, pointing out diagnostic and prognostic insights available from cardiac PET and myocardial blood flow quantification as well as the potential of new F-18 radiotracers to improve imaging in women. She encourages readers to participate in ASNC’s educational programs, research initiatives, and advocacy efforts addressing gender disparities and promoting innovation.
“Prioritize women’s cardiovascular health in your practice,” Dr. Chareonthaitawee urges. “… By harnessing the power of nuclear cardiology and addressing critical challenges such as obesity … we will transform lives and make a lasting impact on women’s heart health.”
