Following the U.S. federal government shutdown on Oct. 1, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced it will hold all Medicare claims for 10 days to avoid reprocessing a large volume of claims when Congress votes to end the shutdown. The hold should have minimal impact on providers due to the 14-day payment floor. Providers may continue to submit claims during this period.
Telehealth Services Also Affected
The Medicare telehealth flexibilities that have been in place since the COVID-19 public health emergency expired on Oct. 1 and will continue to lapse unless there is action by Congress. To avoid practice disruption, ASNC members who provide telehealth services should consider adjusting patient schedules for telehealth services and proactively communicate with affected patients, including providing an Advance Beneficiary Notice of Noncoverage (ABN) if appropriate.
ASNC is monitoring the situation on Capitol Hill and will keep you updated about developments impacting your practice.
