At the June 2025 AMA HOD meeting, ASNC delegate Suman Tandon, MD, FASNC, testified in support of preserving research grants.
At last week’s American Medical Association House of Delegates (AMA HOD) meeting in Chicago, Resolution 226 was adopted in part, establishing that the AMA will support legislation examining biases in review algorithms used by health insurers.
ASNC’s delegates, Suman Tandon, MD, FASNC, and Ahmet Oktay, MD, advocated in favor of Resolution 226. In testimony, Dr. Tandon emphasized that the expanding use of artificial intelligence (AI) and other predictive technologies demands greater oversight of, and accountability for, health plans using these technologies for prior authorization requests.
Dr. Tandon also highlighted the Improving Seniors’ Timely Access to Care Act (S. 1816 | H.R. 3514), which would largely codify and enhance elements of existing regulations on use of AI in prior authorization review. Specifically, the Seniors’ Act would require that Medicare Advantage plans report to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Service the percentage and number of requests it denies following utilization of AI and other types of clinical decision or machine learning technology.
Call to Action: Contact Congress About Prior Auth
ASNC is still urging the nuclear cardiology community to contact their Members of Congress about the Seniors’ Act and the Reducing Medically Unnecessary Delays in Care Act (H.R. 2433). Use ASNC’s Action Center to let Congress know that you want prior authorization reform to be a priority.
