Step-by-Step Guide to Performing, Interpreting, Reporting Myocardial Blood Flow Measurements Acquired with PET Myocardial Perfusion Imaging
ASNC has published PET Myocardial Blood Flow Practice Points, a practical resource that explains, step by step, how to perform, interpret, and report myocardial blood flow (MBF) measurements acquired in conjunction with cardiac PET MPI.
Available only from ASNC, the new Practice Points focus on studies performed with rubidium-82.
This handy new resource covers –
• Clinical scenarios where PET MBF adds clinical value beyond traditional MPI;
• How to manage quality control, including failures to avoid;
• A methodological approach to reviewing MBF data, including how to evaluate MBF reserve (MBFR) in the context of other clinical data; and
• Detailed guidance for writing instructive and clinically meaningful reports explaining MBF and MBFR findings for referrers.
Case Compendium Shows Impact of MBF Reporting in Real-World Practice
Accompanying the Practice Points is a Case Compendium featuring 8 cases selected by experts to show the range of clinical scenarios where PET MBF assessment delivers value beyond perfusion defect evaluation. Each case includes key images, MBF data, and an interpretation of the results.
“Myocardial blood flow assessment offers considerable value to cardiac PET perfusion imaging but requires appreciation and understanding of the technique,” says Gary Heller, MD, PhD, MASNC, Practice Points coauthor. “These Practice Points were developed to assist clinicians in the interpretation and clinical value of myocardial blood flow assessment in conjunction with cardiac PET myocardial perfusion imaging. Case scenarios are presented to give examples of the most common scenarios of MBF and perfusion results to further improve understanding of this valuable addition to myocardial perfusion.”
