Dr. Bourque shared highlights of his professional journey so far – from Duke University, then on to the University of Virginia, where he is now a professor of medicine and radiology; medical director of the nuclear cardiology, stress, and echocardiography labs; and head of a research program focused on microvascular disease, exercise, and predictive analytics.

‘Inspired by Pioneers … Innovating Our Future’

From Dr. Bourque’s President-elect Address at ASNC2025

As ASNC convened its 30th Annual Scientific Session, Dr. Bourque invited members to pause for a moment to be “inspired by the pioneers who created our field. … We will build on the foundation they laid as we innovate for our future.”

Now, he announced, “is an exciting time in nuclear cardiology” because of the advances that are gaining traction across the field. While the tools and opportunities needed to maintain nuclear cardiology’s importance are available, Dr. Bourque explained, the key to driving those advances forward will be innovating together.

Dr. Bourque’s vison for his presidency includes focusing on –

  • Opportunities in artificial intelligence;
  • Supporting and enhancing nuclear functional imaging in ischemic heart disease;
  • Expanding and refining applications in systemic diseases; and
  • Seeking meaningful collaborations with industry, other societies, elected officials, and partners around the world.
