Contemporary Cardiac SPECT Imaging Innovations and Best Practices

A new American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC) position paper, co-published with American Heart Association's (AHA) Circulation: Cardiovascular Imaging, highlights advances in Cardiac SPECT imaging and supports incorporating new technology and techniques in laboratories performing Nuclear Cardiology procedures (as stated in the recently published 2018 SPECT Myocardial Perfusion Imaging Guidelines).
The document focuses on the application of the latest imaging protocols and available hardware and software options to perform high-quality, state-of-the-art SPECT nuclear cardiology procedures for standard of care. Through this paper, we provide recommendations on the best practice of cardiac SPECT imaging, highlighting what nuclear cardiologists should be doing as the standard of care in 2018.
“The document provides laboratories guidance and recommendations for optimal performance of SPECT Nuclear Cardiology procedures by providing a succinct overview of best practices in cardiac SPECT: What is new and why it should be used.”–- Brian G. Abbott, MD, MASNC, Writing Group Chair
