ICANL requires careful documentation of continuing education activities completed by laboratory staff. The ICANL application includes a CE form that must be completed for each staff member. Submission of actual CE certificates or transcript lists is not required as part of the application; however, documentation of CE credits must be kept on file in the laboratory and available for inspection.
All medical and technical staff must attain 15 hours of CE credit, specific to nuclear cardiology and/or nuclear medicine, every three years. Accreditation applicants will be delayed if CE documentation does not meet ICANL requirements.
These continuing education requirements pertain to laboratories applying for nuclear cardiology accreditation. Additional CE documentation may be required for laboratories applying for Nuclear Medicine or PET accreditation.
In an effort to help laboratories determine whether or not a course is relevant to nuclear medicine, ICANL has published a CME Predetermination List that summarizes 35 continuing education programs and their relevance to nuclear medicine. A copy of this list is available at www.icanl.org/icanl/community/cme.htm.
