Applying for ICANL laboratory accreditation has two elements. Applicants must submit an accreditation application, and a percentage of applicants will undergo an on-site visit by ICANL reviewers.
Once submitted, your completed application undergoes a confidential peer review by trained ICANL reviewers, including physicians and technologists. Following the peer review and a four to eight hour ICANL visit to your facility, one of four possible decisions is issued by the Board of Directors:
- Accreditation granted. Accreditation is valid for three years.
- Provisional accreditation granted. Accreditation is valid for one year, pending correction of minor deficiencies that do not impact day-to-day quality of studies.
- Accreditation delayed. Correction of identified deficiencies or submission of additional documents is required.
- Accreditation denied. Correction of substantial deficiencies is required. The laboratory may appeal for reevaluation by another ICANL review panel.
Achievement of accreditation is based on substantial compliance with "The ICANL Standards."
