Nuclear Cardiology for the Technologist
April 26-28, 2013
Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Purpose
The purpose of this program is to increase learners’ competence and performance with current standards for performing nuclear cardiology procedures well as provide them with an update on future direction of techniques and procedures currently in research and development.
Target Audience
This course is designed for nuclear medicine/nuclear cardiology technologists performing nuclear cardiology imaging in both private practice and hospital settings.
Program Objectives
The primary objectives of the course are to enable participants to:
- Explain the rationale and processes of performing SPECT system quality control.
- Explain the rationale and processes of performing PET system quality control.
- Explain techniques for reducing radiation exposure to patients and staff.
- Identify indications consistent and inconsistent with MPI appropriateness criteria.
- Distinguish between the various myocardial perfusion imaging protocols and develop acquisition and processing protocols for one’s own lab.
- Recognize imaging artifacts and processing errors and discuss potential solutions.
- Recognize common cardiac arrhythmias and EKG abnormalities.
- Recognize emergency situations that may arise in the stress lab and explain proper response.
- Discuss the basic principles and protocols for exercise and pharmacologic stress testing.
