Top 10 Things to do in Kansas City: Home of ASNC2017

People may be wondering "why Kansas City" for ASNC2017...we say "why not Kansas City".  Some of our members have provided some fun things to do during your time.
  1.  
1.) Sports: Come a little early and go watch the Kansas City Royals play the Chicago White Sox Wednesday September 13th at 7:10 pm.  On September 17 at noon, the Kansas City Chiefs play the Philadelphia Eagles (upper deck usually around $40, zTrip is the best way over without a car).
2.) Museums: 
National World War I Museum
: Within walking distance from the Sheraton Crown Center and offers beautiful sites of the city along with an interesting and impressive history lesson on our First World War. 
Negro Leagues Baseball Museum: Privately funded non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the rich history of African American baseball. Located in the 18th and Vine District.
Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art: Discover their diverse collections of art and sculpture. This world class art and award winning architecture museum is free to the public and just reopened the new Bloch Gallery,  featuring the Marion and Henry Bloch Collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art, on view for the first time since 2007. Comprised of nearly 30 masterpieces acquired by the Bloch family over the course of two decades. (about a $10 Uber ride from the Sheraton at Crown Center). 
Toy and Miniature Museum: Engage the child in all of us, host to the world's largest fine-scale miniature collection and one of the nations's largest toy collections on public display.  
3.) Restaurants: Kansas City = Barbecue... Local favorites include: Fiorella's Jack Stack (walking distance from Sheraton at Crown Center), Joe's Kansas City Bar B-Que (in an old gas station, ranked top BBQ in the US), Gates Bar-BQ and a favorite new addition to the local scene - Q39 (call for reservations), The Majestic Restaurant featuring a steakhouse with cocktails and nightly old-school jazz and blues (Downtown), BB's Lawnside-mix music with good BBQ!, Green Lady Lounge (walking distance if you have good legs).
4.) Local Libations: Boulevard Brewery tour: A lot of fun! and a tasting room. Now nationally distributed, brewed locally (almost walking distance). Also, check out Manifesto-creative handcrafted cocktails speakeasy lounge, set in the basement of the historic Rieger Hotel-Do call ahead), Tom's Town Distillery-downtown Kansas City's first legal distillery since Prohibition. Drawing inspiration from the country's most polarizing and corrupt political boss, Tom Pendergast, Tom's Town brings to life the glamorous magnetism of the Gatsby era, serving craft cocktails and unique food. 
5.) KC Streetcar: New, free, access to Power and Light Entertainment district or to the River Market district to enjoy local entertainment and great restaurants.

6.) Union Station: A grand, historical train station with permanent & temporary exhibits, a planetarium & science center. The current traveling exhibit: Mummies of the World Exhibit will be open during ASNC2017. 

7.) Taste of Kansas City Food Tours: Participate in a local blend of history with food and enjoy Taste of Kansas City Culinary tour. These tours offer great stops at local eateries served up with entertaining local history.

8.) Shopping at Country Club Plaza: Famous Country Club Plaza, the nation's first open suburban district. Developed in 1922 with a Spanish architecture theme, it is home to high profile stores, restaurants and entertainment amid beautiful fountains, sculptures and murals. ($10 Uber ride from hotel)

9.)  National Archives at Kansas City: Research your family history, attend a genealogy workshop, watch Democracy Starts Here video-all within walking distance and across from WW1) (Closed Sat/Sun).

10.) Loose Park: Need a break from the city life or just want to go for a run?   Loose Park is the 3rd largest park in Kansas City at 75-acres, and holds Civil War landmarks and history, a Rose Garden, tennis courts and a water park, with a resin surface walking/running trail surrounding the perimeter. ($10 Uber ride)
